premier lake of the deep south
In 1946 Congress authorized the construction of a dam that would impound the waters of the Chattahoochee and Chestatee rivers. By the mid 1950’s an aqua blue recreational paradise called Lake Sidney Lanier had been created just 45 miles northeast of Atlanta. Today Lake Lanier is one of America’s favorite lakes drawing over 7.5 million visitors per year. With over 692 miles of shoreline, the lake is well known for its fantastic fishing, lakeside campgrounds, first class resort accommodations, and beautiful golf courses.
Lake Lanier is considered a deep mountain lake with an average depth of 60 feet. As you get close to Buford Dam the lake is almost 200 feet deep. On the north end, the lake takes on the features of the rivers that created it, extending up to the Blue Ridge Mountains and the beautiful city of Dahlonega.
If you would like to see the Lake Lanier Islands and visit the waterpark, or sunbath on your own private beach, come to Lake Lanier, the premier lake of the deep south.
